Acetone (5lts)
Essential for wiping laminate before topcoat and cleaning brushes and rollers between uses.
Acetone is an essential product when installing GRP fibreglass roofing systems. It is used throughout the installation process for cleaning tools, preparing surfaces and ensuring proper adhesion of GRP topcoat.
Before applying topcoat, cured laminate must always be sanded and wiped with acetone. This removes dust, grease and surface contaminants, creating the clean, keyed surface required for a strong bond and professional finish. GRP trims should also be wiped down with acetone before use to remove any residue or dust from the manufacturing and handling process.
Acetone is widely used to clean brushes, rollers and tools between uses, preventing resin from curing in fibres and extending the life of application equipment.
Common GRP uses
• Wiping cured laminate before topcoat application
• Cleaning GRP trims prior to installation
• Removing sanding dust and contaminants
• Cleaning rollers, brushes and paddle rollers
• Flushing tools between resin batches
• Maintaining reusable application equipment
Health & safety guidance
Acetone is highly flammable and has a very low flash point, meaning it evaporates quickly and vapours can ignite easily. Always use in well-ventilated areas, keep containers sealed when not in use to prevent it flashing off, and store away from heat, sparks and open flames.
Proper surface preparation and tool cleaning are critical to achieving a long-lasting GRP roof, so keeping acetone available on site is essential for every installation.
