This high-quality methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) catalyst is specifically designed and tested for use with the Stronghold GRP roofing system. It activates the curing process in both the Stronghold Base Resin and Stronghold Topcoat and is added at a rate of 1–4% by weight depending on temperature and working conditions.
Stronghold catalysts are formulated to work with the system without affecting the fire-retardant performance or certification of the Stronghold roofing products.
The bottles feature vented safety caps in line with current health and safety regulations, while the 1kg containers include separate dispensing chambers and child-resistant caps for controlled and safer dosing on site.
MEKP Catalyst for Stronghold GRP Roofing Systems
Stronghold Catalyst is a high-quality methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) curing agent used to activate both Stronghold Base Resin and Stronghold Topcoat during fibreglass roofing installations.
Polyester resins require catalyst to trigger the chemical curing reaction that hardens the laminate and topcoat layers. Without the correct catalyst addition the resin will not cure properly.
This catalyst has been specifically designed, tested and approved for use within the Stronghold GRP roofing system, ensuring reliable curing performance without affecting the fire-retardant properties of the system.
Correct Catalyst Ratios
Catalyst must be added to both the base resin and topcoat during installation.
The recommended dosage rate is:
1% – 4% catalyst by weight
The correct ratio depends on working conditions including:
• ambient temperature
• resin temperature
• roof surface temperature
• working time required
In warmer summer conditions installers typically reduce catalyst levels, while cooler temperatures may require slightly higher percentages to maintain proper curing times.
